Our Food Safety Assessment has been developed to provide the basic knowledge needed for food handling in a social care environment. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is the Government department responsible for protecting public health and consumer interests in relation to food. The assessment standards are based on the FSA’s publication “The Essentials of Food Safety: A guide for Carers”. It is a requirement that anyone working with and serving food has a basic level of knowledge under the Food Hygiene Regulations.

Anyone involved in preparing food on a regular basis will need to undertake an accredited Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificated course. Contact your Local Authority for more information. The assessments will measure some of the knowledge required towards this Certificate
