The Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC) created these standards because they want to support foster carers who are expected to provide consistently high quality care to some of the most vulnerable children and young people in England.
Foster carers now have national minimum standards of best practice. The standards help to ensure foster carers are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to do their very best for the children in their care. They also support fostering services to offer consistently high quality care provision.
All foster carers in England are expected to complete the standards by April 2011, with new foster carers to complete them within twelve months of their approval.
Although the standards and headings are the same, the assessment for short break carers is different to the assessment for foster carers but the assessments are usually requested together as a package.
